Send a Smile blog www.sendasmile.com/en_GB/weblog This webfeed notifice about new items at www.sendasmile.com <![CDATA[When hatemail is hilarious]]> According to Send a Smile, a greeting card isn't a greeting card if it doesn't contain a sweet message, greeting or wish. But reading this article proves even the most offending message can delight if it's deliverd in style and with (British) humor.

London based Mr. Bingo sent out an invitation on Twitter: "I will send a postcard with an offensive message on to the first person who replies to this," it read.

Soon after, the winner, one Jonathan, received a postcard, the reverse of which depicted a pair of severed limbs and the message: "Fuck you Jonathan and fuck your shit legs." And so a curiously British social phenomenon that fuses comedy and art was born.

<![CDATA[Roses are red]]> Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
Sugar is sweet
and so are you.
But most of the time we make up the last two lines so they rhyme.
Anything from the sarcastic:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
You broke my heart
Now I hate you
To warm and fuzzy:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I just love
everything about you.
To the silly:
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Now come here and kiss me
or else I'll kiss you
To the sarcastic:

Roses are red, Violets are blue
You broke my heart, Now I hate you

To the warm and fuzzy:

Roses are red, Violets are blue
I just love, everything about you.

To the silly:

Roses are red, Violets are blue
Now come here and kiss me, or else I'll kiss you

<![CDATA[Valentine inspiration]]> O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love And I'll no longer be a Capulet.

Shall I hear more, or shall I speak at this?

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy: Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? It is nor hand nor foot, Nor arm nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O be some other name! What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other word would smell as sweet; So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd, Retain that dear perfection which he owes Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name, and for thy name, which is no part of thee, Take all myself.

* Romeo And Juliet, William Shakespeare *

<![CDATA[Love Stinks!]]>
That’s right we said it, love stinks. Especially when there is an entire holiday dedicated to watching couples perform normally repulsive public displays of affection with little objection from innocent bystanders. Instead of following the crowd, we at Send a Smile march to the beat of our own drum and so was born the Love Stinks
Valentine’s Day Design Challenge.

Valentine’s day is right around the corner and to keep with the theme of Send a Smile we are holding a contest for whomever can come up with the wittiest, silliest and most anti-Valentines day card around.

So here are the rules:

1)You can enter as many cards as you like so long as you enter the word “VALENTINES” in the tag section.
2) Your card will be judged on text and design so make sure your card is original.
3) This contest will run from January 16 - February 6th.
4) One winner will receive a $50 iTunes gift card.]]>

<![CDATA[Spooktacular Contest! ]]>

Spooktacular Halloween Card Contest!
Following in the footsteps of our first design challenge, we now have a second contest in store for everyone. It's the most wonderful time of the year, for parent's that is! It's a time when we pack away our bathing suits and take out those itchy wool sweaters from the attic. A time when you finally get the kids out of the house and have some quiet time without hearing the three scariest words, “what's for dinner?” Most of all it's a time to scare up some fun.
Halloween is right around the corner and we have cooked up a ghastly competition for our Send a Smile community. This one is an adult swim only card competition, so we are asking that you create one Spooktacular Halloween card that will have your colleagues at work or anyone legal to vote rolling on the floor with laughter. It must include a picture as well as text both on the inside and out. You can draw, design, or even include a funny picture from home.
It's really simple, just create a card suitable for adults or the young at heart, as we call them.
Write the word “SPOOKTACULAR” in the tag section which will ensure your entry into the contest.
We will pick a winner and present them with hauntingly good prizes!!

<![CDATA[Meet Chris Dickason]]> Chris grew up somewhere between the canals of southwest France, the Swiss
mountains and England’s Essex estuary. The youngest of four children (the little
brother role he still embraces in adulthood) Chris spent the majority of his
education drawing on his friends’ schoolbooks and was brought up on a diet of
Tom & Jerry, Swiss chocolates, cheap fizzy pop and French sunshine.
Chris’ irreverent sense of humour was born from years as both a mild mannered
doodler and angry burger flipper. Taking inspiration as much from Henri Matisse
as he does The Muppets as well as odd bits of packaging collected from foreign
supermarkets Chris’ work has been described as charming and visually striking
with a sharp graphic style. His illustrations are populated with rambunctious
characters that are a cleverly crafted mix of an uncomplicated line style, wonky
perspectives and conspicuous colour choices.
Currently Chris enjoys living in Bristol, England.
Selected Clients: MTV, Ryanair, Gap Kids, J & B Whisky, BBC & CBBC,
Marks and Spencer, Gymboree, Blacks Leisure Group, ITV, Propaganda,
Lemon Ribbon, Westonbirt Arboretum, The Lowry Centre, Wired Magazine,
The UTNE Reader, 4Talent.
